Barbara Kathrein was born in Somerville, Massachusetts which is the suburb of Boston. Her Father was a Fireman and her mother worked at home raising five kids.
Barbara moved to Fallon, Nevada with her husband Dennis in June 1980 where he worked for All Season Homes for 10 years. They decided to open their own business G.M. Mobile Home Service for 6 years then Dennis decided to retire.
Barbara joined the Elks Lodge 15 years ago and was the first Lady to become Exalted Ruler. She does lots of Volunteer work for the Elks Lodge and other community organizations.
Barbara enjoys cooking, sewing and putting puzzles together and keeps very busy with volunteer work.
Valarie Furtado was born and raised in Tracy, California. Her family was in the farming and dairy business. Her 23 year career she has been in the Full Service Physician Billing Industry. For 14 years she was the Director of Operations for a San Francisco Corporation based in Modesto, California. She is a Billing Specialist and Physician Consultant for the past 9 years and operates her own home business. She is experienced in administrative duties, financial/bookkeeping and physician office billing operations.
She moved to Fallon, Nevada 8 years ago. She enjoys playing pool, fishing and working outside on her property. She has three children, six grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Patrick Pharris has lived in Northern Nevada for nearly 50 years growing up in Lake Tahoe and moving to Reno in 1976 to go to school.
He enjoyed “Cowboyin’” in his youth and entered the advertising field shortly after achieving his Associates Degree in Business in 1978 from Western Nevada Community College.
He has experience in virtually every aspect in his field including Television where he spent time with the local ABC, NBC and CBS affiliates and started working with video production. Pat is a 2 time Emmy nominated Video Producer/Director.
He resides in Sparks, Nevada where he owns PM Advertising & Marketing. He has one child, his 22 yr. old daughter Alyssa and enjoys anything outdoors.

Rick Hays moved to Reno in 1975. He has received two Associate Degrees from the Community College of the Air Force 1) Information Management 2) Information Systems. He received a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Management from the University of Phoenix and he is currently pursuing a Master’s of Science in Information Assurance Degree through Norwich University. Rick is dedicated to continual learning. Rick began his military career in the U.S. Navy. He is currently on Active Duty, in the Nevada Air National Guard and has already served our nation for over 21 years.
Rick is an entertainer and has had his own band “Rick Hays and American Steel” for over 18 years. Rick’s first experience with the Fallon Cantaloupe Festival was in 1997 when he opened for Doug Supernaw. Rick began his band performing career in Fallon, Nevada and has had the honor to sing the National Anthem for the President of the United States. He has performed the National Anthem for many various Local, State and Federal events such as the Reno Rodeo, Navy and Air Force Military Balls, Reno Aces and a multitude of special events that have spanned over 20 years. In short, Rick Hays is an entertainer and knows what entertainment is. His volunteer role as the Entertainment Director for the Fallon Cantaloupe Festival is an honor he takes seriously. Rick is excited to be a part of the new Board for the Fallon Cantaloupe Festival.
